Kampo Cultural Center presents

AZUCHI AND KASAI GLASS EXHIBITION
Soft and Warm Hand Blown Glass from Japan

New York,NY(August 13 1993)　Kampo Cultural Center hosts the U.S. premiere exhibition of Japanese hand blown glass artist,Tadahisa Azuchi and Shuro Kasai. This unusual exhibit is presented as an installation piece, an environment of organic forms which eschew conventional concepts of the art of blown glass.While not a collaborative piece,the juxtaposition of these two artist's work within one space enhances thir expression of awe toward the natural world.

In his piece"Be Born"Azuchi, a farmer,reflects on the origins of life and meaning. An explosion of glass orbs suggest larvae or,perhaps,the Big Bang theory frozen in time.

Kasai invites the viewer to wander amongst his "Wind," a field of vases, poised and luminous.His work seek to express the feelings of wabi(quiet refinement) and sabi(antique look) as well as the quality of shodo(Japanese calligraphy).

Tadahisa Azuchi graduated from,Shikokugakuin University with degrr in literature before becoming a famer. In 1979 he began experimenting with hand blown glass techniques and came into his own as a glass artist in 1984.

Shuro Kasai graduated from Nihon University with a degree in applied physics. He began his work as a glass artist in 1983.

Both artist are self-taught in the art of blown glass. Each exhibits extensively throughout Japan. This is thir first U.S. exhibition.
